Fun Things to Do With Your Grandchildren
Grandchildren and their grandparents often enjoy a special relationship. Since the parents are the rule-enforcers, grandparents can simply focus on spending quality time with the kids. There are lots of fun activities for you and your grandkids to do together when they come to visit your independent living community.
Have a Picnic
You can have a picnic anywhere there is green grass and great views. Lay an old sheet or tablecloth on a grassy area at your senior living community and enjoy a meal together. Remember to bring a Frisbee or softball to toss back and forth.
Kids love to customize their possessions. Purchase a few plain white T-shirts. Look for shirts with a 50/50 polyester-cotton blend. Get some fabric paint and brushes, along with embellishments like rhinestones and glitter. You should be able to find everything you need at an arts and crafts store. Lay down some old newspaper on the table before opening the paint.
Build a Blanket Fort
Young kids love to build forts out of sheets and blankets. Use tall furniture and poles, such as an unlit floor lamp, to hold up old sheets and create a fort in the living room. Spread a comfy blanket on the floor underneath it and add some throw pillows. Snuggle up together and read your grandchildren’s favorite books.
Make Up a Story
The next time your grandchild asks you to tell him or her a story, suggest that the two of you create a story together. You’ll start by saying one sentence out loud. Then, your grandchild will add a sentence, and so on. Continue taking turns until the story is completed. There’s no need to write it down as you go, but you could do so if you wish.
